Monotypes and Monoprints

Most of my printmaking is technically a collagraph, but rather than making defined editions, I normally prefer to explore variations in colour and inking to create monoprints. Each image thus made is unique, even though the basic print matrix is a constant.

I also make monotypes. Monotyping produces a unique print because most of the ink is removed during the initial pressing. Although subsequent reprintings are sometimes possible, they differ greatly from the first print. Stencils, watercolor, solvents, brushes, and other tools are often used to embellish a monotype print.
